Feature Projects

Client: Bluetongue Brewery
Bluetongue Brewery recently updated their brew house from a 2 vessel 25HL to a new 4 vessel 50HL system. The 4 vessel system allows Bluetongue to push more brews per day through the plant, giving them economies of scale and greater efficiency, whilst maintaining consistent quality and throughput.

In addition to the new brew house, Bluetongue Brewery also upgraded their complete fermentation cellar with 6 x 100HL PSS fermenters, 3 x 200HL fermenters from a local Newcastle fabricator, and 6 x 100HL storage tanks.

The original 24HL plant was supplied and commissioned in late 2003, and has since evolved to be one of Australia’s larger microbreweries processing around 2 million litres of beer last year.

About Bluetongue Brewery
Bluetongue Brewery was founded in November 2003 by four Hunter based entrepreneurs who wanted to create premium Australian beer with the stamp of their local region. Bluetongue Brewery produces several beers including their flagship brand Bluetongue Premium Lager, Ginger Beer and Pilsner as well as all the beer for the Energy Australia Stadium in Newcastle.

Client: Matilda Bay Brewery
One of our early projects was the installation and commissioning of a brewery at the former Stockade Brewery - now Matilda Bay Garage, in Melbourne’s Dandenong South in early 2001. The brewery featured a 25HL brewhouse, 10 x 60HL CCV’s and 2 x 60HL BBT’s. The brewhouse was automated with a Siemens Simatic PLC on request from the client, primarily for product consistency and to free up brewers for other tasks.

The brewhouse also serves as the much valued R&D unit for the Matilda Bay Group, where all beers are developed and stringent processes are required. The tailored equipment allows Matilda Bay to brew in small craft batches, thus creating beer with more flavour and character.

About Matilda Bay
The recipient of numerous awards, the Matilda Bay Brewing Company.started in 1984, with the release of the Redback and Dogbolter beers. In 2005, Matilda Bay opened up ‘The Garage’ in Victoria’s Dandenong. The new facility gave the Company the opportunity to refine their beers and continue to invent new ones.

Client: The Flying Horse Bar & Brewery
After being in development for nearly four years, The Flying Horse Bar and Brewery in Warrnambool Victoria, opened in July 2008.

The boutique brewery installation was as a turnkey solution - we supplied a skid mounted 10HL Pub Brew system with mash/lauter, HLT combo vessel and kettle/whirlpool vessel. The installation included a glycol chilling unit, steam boiler, grain mill with auger and keg washing/filling unit, three 1000L FV and two 1200L Bright beer tanks. The stainless steel, steam powered and manually operated brewery is a classic single infusion design, which roughly translated means that it can produce over 2500 pots of beer.

Winner of the prestigious Champion Porter trophy and Gold Medal at the 2009 Australian International Beer Awards, the brewery is actively working on growing distribution of its beers both domestically and in overseas markets.

About The Flying Horse Brewery
The Flying Horse Brewery aims to service local customers and tourists, with a unique and rewarding hospitality experience. The site was previously a service station and caravan park named "The Flying Horse Inn", which featured a red pegusus horse. The owners of the Brewery – Matt Monk, Matt Stewart and Graeme Rodger, decided to maintain the unique branding. Beers range from the light, refreshing hoppy Whale Ale, to the Lady Bay Lager, the aromatic Whoolaston Wheaty and famous Dirty Angel.
